At Mooloolaba Dental (formerly Fenton Dental) and Swell Dental by Mooloolaba Dental, our local dentists on the Sunshine Coast have been using the tooth coloured filling material, in both front and back teeth since 1981. Patients prefer to have white tooth fillings rather than the silver (amalgam fillings), even though the amalgam filling lasts longer than the white composite resin filling.

As a highly experienced tooth filling dentist, our dental practice does not advise the removal of amalgam teeth fillings for health reasons, unless there are rare chronic conditions that may indicate their removal is necessary. However, on some occasions, a dentist will decide it is appropriate to remove old, corroded and unsightly amalgam, at which time most people opt for the white tooth fillings to replace them.

Large amalgams or teeth that involve more than half of their bulk in tooth filling material need a strong replacement such as a porcelain crown. If this turns out to be the case for you, then your tooth filling dentist will advise as such during your initial tooth fillings consultation.
